The Senate has taken a shocking decision by suspending the confirmation of 27 resident electoral commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nominated by the president.

The Senate has drawn the battle line hitting hard on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Executive arm as it suspends the confirmation of the 27 resident electoral commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nominated by the president.

The decision was made on the floor of the house after the senator representing Delta north, Peter Nwaoboshi, on Tuesday moved a motion that the exercise be suspended based on the refusal of the executive to accept the senate’s rejection of Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The motion was adopted by the Senators who wondered the relevance of their role if the Executive arm could keep Ibrahim Magu as the EFCC acting Chairman even after he was rejected by the House.

The Senate, therefore, shifted screening, which was supposed to begin on Tuesday, by two weeks
