EFCC Arraigns Directors of Origin Oil and Gas over N735m Subsidy Scam (Photos)

The foremost anti-grant body in Nigeria, EFCC has arraigned two Nigerian businessmen accused of oil subsidy fraud.

One of the paraded suspects
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, March 30, 2017 arraigned the duo of Adegbite Adetoye and Ponnle Abiodun along with Origin Oil and Gas Limited before Justice Silvanus Orji of the FCT High Court Apo, Abuja on an 11-count charge of fraud and abuse of Petroleum Support Fund to the tune of N735 million.
Adetoye and his co-accused allegedly conspired and fraudulently obtained the sum of N735, 132, 076.18 (seven hundred and thirty five million, one hundred and fifty two thousand, seventy six naira, eighteen kobo) from the federal government as payment for the importation of 15,000mt of premium motor spirit (PMS) which they claim to have purchased from Vitol SA and imported into Nigeria through MT Silverie.

The offence contravenes Section 8 (a) and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge. S. I Ameh, SAN, counsel to the defendants, informed the court that he had a pending bail application dated March 27, 2017 and served on the prosecution same date.
He urged the court to admit the defendants to bail adding that they would be available for trial. Counsel to EFCC, Steve Odiase, did not oppose the application on the ground that the defendants had earlier been granted administrative bail by the Commission.
Justice Orji granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N100million each with two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be civil servants not below grade level 14 or residents in Abuja with traceable address to be verified by the court or EFCC. The defendants must not travel out without the permission of the court.
The case has been adjourned to May 22nd and 25th, 2017 for hearing. Meanwhile, Justice Orji has ordered the defendants to be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of their bail terms.

Unbelievable! This Strange Cattle Breeder Gives His Cows Up to Four Litres of Beer Every Day (Photos)

A man has stunned many people with the way he treats his cows after it was revealed he gives them beer.
Hugues Derzelle
Hugues Derzelle, a cattle breeder from Chimay, Belgium, believes that one of the secrets to great tasting, marbled beef could be beer, so for the past few months he has been giving some of his cows four liters of dark beer every day.
Oddity Central reports that Derzelle says he came up with the idea after reading that Japanese Kobe beef producers massage their cows, play them soothing music and give them beer to drink.

A quick Google search reveals that this is nothing but a myth, albeit a very popular one, but that doesn’t seem to have mattered very much to the Belgian breeder. Since November, he has been treating two of his cows to four liters of local Sara de Silenrieux dark beer, in the hopes that it would improve the marbling of their meat as well as the taste.
“I said to myself: well, if the Japanese give their cows beer, massage them and play music for them to come up with quality gourmet meat, why can’t we adopt a bit of the production system here and make it ‘made in Walonnia’?” Derzelle explains the reasoning behind his decision.
Sara de Silenrieux is a pretty strong dark beer, with an alcohol content of 5% by volume, but Hugues Derzelle claims that the cows aren’t in any danger of getting drunk from their daily beer diet because the bacteria in their rumen (the bovine equivalent of our esophagus) immediately metabolize most of the alcohol, with only very little of it reaching their bloodstream.
Derzelle started giving four liters of dark beers to two of his cows in November 2016, and on March 25 he shipped the first samples of his beer-enhanced beef to select stores in Belgium.
He claims that the special diet makes the meat a bit more expensive than other artisan beefs, but not outrageously so.
The Belgian farmer plans to produce around 500 kilograms of his special beef in the first year, and increase production if feedback from consumers is positive.
In case you’re looking to get your hands on a couple of steaks of this special beer beef, it’s called “Saveur du Long PrĂ©” or “Flavor of the Long Meadow”.
Hugues Derzelle isn’t the only cattle breeder who’s betting on unconventional feed to improve the taste of beef. An Australian farm has been feeding chocolate to its cows, and claims the result has been fantastic. So maybe he really is on to something.

Two NSCDC Officers Sacked for Engaging in Alleged Oil Bunkering and Theft (Photos)

It is the end of the road for two Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officers who allegedly engaged in oil bunkering and theft.
The two dismissed NSCDC officers
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has suspended two of its officers for alleged involvement in oil theft in Bayelsa. The Corps Sp‎okesman, Mr Emmanuel Okeh, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.

Okeh said the management of the Corps condemned the alleged possession of illegal petroleum products suspected to be diesel (AGO) by two officers of the Corps who were recently arrested and presented to newsmen by the Police.
He said that the‎ ‎Commandant-General of the Corps, Mr Abdullahi Muhammadu, had set up a panel of inquiry to investigate the matter for proper action to be taken in line with the public service rules.
According to him, the affected personnel, Assistant Superintendent of Corps (ASCI) Agah Utavie, and Assistant Superintendent of Corps (ASCII) Angel Kilosomewo, ‎had been suspended from the service until investigations were concluded.‎
He said that the Commandant-General of the Corps, Abdullahi Muhammadu, had therefore warned officers and men of the Corps to desist from such act or face the full wrath of the law.
The Police had on March 23 presented to newsmen two officers of the NSCDC for allegedly dealing in suspected illegally refined diesel in Otuasegha area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa.
The Police‎ Force spokesman, CSP Jimoh Moshood, had said that the suspects were arrested by the Inspector-General of Police (I-G’s) Special Task Force on March 7. ‎
Moshood said that their office had been informed and that the police investigating team was awaiting their response to conclude investigation into the case and arraign them in court.

Gorgeous 21-year-old Medical Student Who Appeared on Cover of Vogue Commits Suicide (Photos)

A medical student and model who appeared on the cover of popular Vogue magazine has allegedly killed herself.
Raudha Athif allegedly killed herself after she was found dead in her room
People have been left in great shock following the death of a model and medical student who appeared on the cover of Vogue and even received praised from the president of her native Maldives for her striking appearance.
She was alleged to have committed suicide at a dormitory hostel in Bangladesh.
According to Dailymail, Raudha Athif, 21, a second-year student at Islami Bank Medical College in Rajshahi city, was found dead in her room on Wednesday. Her body was recovered by police at around midday after her classmates found her dead.

The body was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for an autopsy, according to The Daily Star.
Mahmuda Begum, the superintendent of the female hostel, said the model 'always looked happy,' and added, 'it is hard to believe she would commit suicide'.
Ms Begum said: 'I was in my chamber. Suddenly, I heard screams of my students.
'Rushing to the second floor of this six-storey building, I saw some of the students trying to break the door of Athif's room.'
The door was locked from the inside and students broke into the room.
'We primarily suspect it is a suicide case. However, we can't come to any conclusion until we get the autopsy report,' said the officer-in-charge Zillur Rahman.
The model's first major breakthrough was a stunning image taken by photographer Sotti called 'Maldivian Girl With Aqua Blue Eyes,' which was praised by the former president of the Maldives over social media.
The picture made her an internet sensation in 2014. Her fame grew and she eventually landed on the cover of Vogue India in October last year.
'Modelling is a hobby rather than a career for me, since I'm studying to become a doctor,' she told Vogue.

Doctors Declare State of Emergency at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital... See Reason (Photos)

The dilapidated state of the medical facilities in Nigeria has been exposed again following a state of emergency declared in a major government hospital in Benin, Edo State.

Part of dilapidated part of the hospital
The Association of resident Doctors (ARD) University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has declared a State of Emergency at the hospital due to the acute decay of administration procedures and state of equipment in the hospital.
Arising from an emergency general meeting (EGM) held by the association on Monday 27th March 2017 where issues bothering on patient care staff welfare and infrastructure were discussed, the executive of the association led by their president, Dr. Eustace Oseghale, has declared a state of emergency at the hospital saying that the reality is that patients coming to the hospital cannot be given adequate service.
He said that during the meeting, the ARD congress has noted that after several engagements and pleas the hospital management is yet to ensure adequate patient care and staff welfare.
“The Association intends to bring to the attention of well-meaning Nigerians the unavailability of basic consumables in the hospital, it's of note that surgeons in UBTH have to struggle with the operating tables during surgery and the equipment in the sterilising department are often broken down leaving patients, patient relatives and doctors stranded. The accident and emergency is not left out as doctors nurses and patients are often found searching for materials to provide care with the patients having to go out to source materials most times,” he said.

He enumerated some of the problems associated with the hospital since the administration of the present Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof Michael Ibadin, took over the management of the hospital as being very inimical of the oath of service taken by doctors in the profession.
“The call rooms and post graduate library in the hospital are often in darkness and resident doctors on call have to grapple with insects and reptiles in the dark call rooms. Patient care is not the only suffering sector as staff welfare is so bad. The house officers who just completed their house job are been owed several months of salaries despite been over worked as they were grossly short staffed.

“Some UBTH doctors are still been owed June to august 2013 salaries despite several appeals to the management these salaries have dragged for four years. UBTH doctors have been paid percentage of salaries for months and despite several appeals to management there is currently no plan to pay the deficits,’ he said.
He went on to reveal that the number of resident doctors in UBTH has reduced from over 600 in 2012 to approximately a third the number now in 2017 this has its attending negative consequences on patient care as less number of doctors available to provide care and the few hands available are overworked and usually fatigued at work.
“It is quite sad as this is not the situation in most other teaching hospitals in the country as employment of doctors and other health care workers goes on simultaneously with adequate remuneration. Currently UBTH doctors rank very high in the race out of Nigeria to practice in foreign countries for job satisfaction.

The association having discussed these issues of patient care, staff welfare, training and infrastructure with hospital management severally with no solution provided by the hospital management has declared a state of emergency and issued a 21 day ultimatum to the hospital management.” he declared.
He went on to appeal to Nigerians across the country and members of the general public and well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on the management of UBTH to do the needful to ensure adequate health for the good people of Edo state and Nigeria at large.

Trouble in Paradise? Buhari's Police Guards in Massive Protest...Find Out Why

Nigerian Police officers including the ones attached to the presidency, are alleging that their bosses have been denying them more than two years Risk Caution Allowances.
File photo: Buhari and his police guards
Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force numbering up to 127, who are attached to the presidency in Abuja and the South-West, are reportedly unhappy and grumbling over unpaid allowances.

According to a report by The Guardian, the police officers are alleging that their bosses have been denying them more than two years Risk Caution Allowances (RSA) approved by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The yet-to-be-paid allowances run into millions of naira. The peeved policemen received this money during the administration of former presidents Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.
In a disclosure to the publication, a reliable source revealed that those affected are mostly corporals and inspectors while officers from the rank of assistant superintendent of police (ASP) to deputy superintendent of police (DCP) receive their allowances fully and regularly.
The corporals are said to be entitled to RSA of N75,000 monthly while inspectors are to receive N92,000. After several appeals to National Security Adviser (NSA), Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd) to intervene allegedly went unheeded, the aggrieved security officers approached a non-governmental organisation, Network on Police Reform in Nigeria (NOPRIN).
NOPRIN, through its National Co-ordinator, Okechukwu Nwagunma, wrote a petition to the NSA on December 5, 2016. The organisation said it was drawing the attention of the NSA to grumblings and complaints by police officers attached to the State House and Dodan Barracks in Lagos over unpaid risk caution allowances which may have been diverted, resulting in its non-payment.
NOPRIN requested the NSA to intervene to ensure a just resolution of the complaint. The angry policemen also want three of their top officers investigated in connection with the elusive allowances.
They are DCP Abdulahi Dauda, Chief Principal Staff Officer to the President (CPSO), DCP Sikiru Akande in charge of Presidential Vehicle Movement (PVM) and CSP Abdulahi Ibrahim, Commander, MOPOL 24.

Justice! Family Seeks Probe of 'Mysterious' Death of Former Oil Worker

Highly distraught family members are moving all out to get justice after one of their own died mysteriously.
Timothy Kalio
A Premium Times report has shown that the family of Timothy Kalio, who died some days ago, has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police and Rivers State government to investigate the mystery surrounding his death.
Mr. Kalio, 58, reportedly died in an undisclosed hospital in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, where he was taken to for an undisclosed sickness.
The deceased’s family said after his death, Mr. Kalio’s body was deposited in a morgue without the knowledge of any of his children.
Belema Uduje, the deceased’s daughter, who spoke about the development, said the family suspects foul play in Mr. Kalio’s death.
“This was a man full of life without any complaint,” said Mrs. Uduje, a medical doctor.

“And a week before we were told of his death, all efforts to reach him on phone and Facebook were futile, as his phone was switched off and his Facebook account deleted.
“But few days after his death his phone was on, this was extremely puzzling. Why would someone deliberately switch off his phone and delete himself from social media?”
Mrs. Uduje said they were told her father had complained of a headache and was rushed to a hospital where a CT scan was done.
“The scan result showed bleeding from both sides of the brain which was caused by trauma,” she said.
“We were also told that a neurosurgeon requested that surgery be done to drain the blood, which we were told that our father consented to, and he died after the surgery was done.
“Even after he died, his body was taken to the mortuary. All these happened without us being informed. He had no life threatening medical condition. He was a healthy fun loving man.”
Mrs. Uduje said efforts to seek answers to questions surrounding the cause of death from the deceased’s second wife were also unsuccessful.
“We also pleaded with his family to ask questions but the family says they are not interested in knowing what happened to their brother they just want to bury him,” she said.
“Circumstances surrounding his death are suspicious. It is very impossible for a healthy individual to bleed in the brain. The deceased just retired from Shell Petroleum Development Company less than a year, and he was paid  gratuities and benefits in full. I am asking the appropriate authorities to seek justice for my father.
“It is on this premise that we are appealing to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), and the Rivers State Governor, Barr. Nyesom Wike, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of our father, and ensure that all those involved in his death be brought to book."
She also called on the Nigerian Medical Association, Port-Harcourt branch, to assist her and members of her family in Investigating the cause of her late father’s death.
Equally, two of the deceased’s daughters, who are lawyers, also appealed to the Port-Harcourt branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), to join in the investigation to unravel the death of their father.

Unbelievable! See the Community Where S*x is Used to Pay for Debts and Loans

A community where some money lenders are given s*x in exchange for loans has been exposed leaving many people in serious shock.
Maasais who give money without collateral and security walk towards Migosi estate in Kisumu to collect money from their lenders
Some really strange things are happening in some communities in Africa. A recent report by The Nairobian, has beamed its torchlight on a community in Kenya where people pay for fish, rides and even food in Kisumu City with s*x. In fact, some even pay for loans with s*x - this happens when they fail to meet up with the loan deal.
According to the report, those dishing out loans and benefiting through lungula are Maasai men who have recently ‘invaded’ the lakeside town where they hawk Somali simis, kienyeji medicine, shoes, belts and wallets, besides others who man homes and business premises.
Their target are needy women in Kondele, Migosi, Manyatta and Obunga slums all in Kenya, where the eros, as they are commonly referred to by residents, give unsecured loans of between Sh500 to Sh20,000 without the women necessarily surrendering personal identification documents or having guarantors.
The loans are payable within two months, at 50 per cent interest collected in bits every evening from agreed points.
These women have been forced to seek out the Maasai men for loans, since micro-finance groups in the area dish out loans at interest rates between 30 and 50 per cent, and will insist on guarantors and identification documents. Those who default have their properties auctioned, unlike the Maasais who do not need any collateral. Shylocks also lend money at exorbitant rates, and have limited payment periods hence the option of sex for loans.
Linet Awino from Migosi is yet to give in despite defaulting several times.
“I was surprised when one of them made a comment that I had a big body and could serve the four of them at once. They told me that in their culture, they believe it is the men who get tired, not women,” recalls Linet, who warned her friends of the ‘hidden charges’ on the loans which had forced her four neighbours to move houses after defaulting.

“The problem is that when you are getting the loan, you only deal with one person. But when you default and have to pay with sex, there are suddenly so many people. That is why some women have to flee,” said another beneficiary who did not want to be named for fear that her husband could get wind of the story.
While talking about the loan for s*x, she said they had little option since they are not subjected to “unnecessary vetting, unlike the alternative that have so many conditions, even for a Sh2,000 loan.”
However the s*x rider only applies for defaulters. The Nairobian spoke to four women who had to surrender their bodies for s*x for failing to pay their loans when it was due. They were unanimous that the experience is traumatising.
The office of Kisumu Central MP had to intervene in one case last month, and offered to pay Sh4,700 to save a middle-aged mother who had defaulted on her loan payment, but was not willing to offer her body to underwrite the loan.
Constituency Manager Nahashon Ng’wena confirmed that they paid the money after the woman visited the office and narrated her fears. But a woman nicknamed ‘Nyakisumo’ from Manyatta slums was not lucky as she had to render services to five eros in her own bed after failing to pay part of her Sh5,000 loan.
The trader at Kondele Market has since abandoned her vegetable business due to embarrassment after word of the romp leaked.
The market chairman, Sylvester Odhiambo told The Nairobian that he handled the case. “We used to see the Maasais come to the woman’s stall every evening, but we did not know what was going on. We thought they were her customers,” explained Odhiambo.
Little did Odhiambo know that the men had been visiting the mama mboga to recover their loan and after numerous visits, walked her home where they proposed ‘a friendly match.’ The mama mboga accepted reluctantly, thinking it was only one of them who was to take the ‘free kick.’ She was wrong. The case was not reported to the police.
“The women do not even know the names of the people they deal with. They are just called ero, hence it is even difficult to handle the case through legal means,” said Odhiambo, adding that the market management has sought funds from Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma who allocated them Sh100,000 to promote SMEs. Another Sh100,000 was raised through harambees which provided the Sh200,000 seed capital.

The Kondele Market traders then formed an organisation and registered all members who bought shares by contributing Sh20 a day. With Sh500, a trader qualifies for a loan three-times the share capital and payable at 10 per cent interest within three months.

In Migosi estate, Nelson Ochieng, who has also benefited from the loans confirmed that such incidents were common in the area, but since he’s a man his encounter was restricted to a near brawl with the Maasais

“Since I am a man, I have always faced harassment and intimidation any time I default. However it is women who mostly seek the loans and have had to face such ordeals,” said Ochieng who is currently servicing his Sh10,000 loan.
Contacted by The Nairobian, one Maasai who only identified himself as Joseph and who loans small traders, accused the women of playing victims, yet it is them who proposed the s*x for loans alternative.
“I have never been involved, but we have encountered such incidents. It is the women who lure our brothers to bed, thinking that if they give s*x, then they will not be subjected to paying the loans,” he said.
Joseph who has since decided to close business after collecting his pending interests has said the business was good until the beneficiaries introduced ukora of taking money and seeking to repay through s*x, or disappearing, since tracing them was an uphill task due to lack of proper identification.
“It is tricky for men who are not careful. You have to be smart not to fall prey to such women,” he said.

Neymar is a Betrayer, He Must Be Jailed - Heartbroken Delcir Sonda Breaks Silence on Barca Star

Barcelona star, Neymar and his family, have been seriously accused of being betrayals and traitors by the founding partner of Brazilian investment group who is insisting that the player must go to jail for corruption.
Neymar
The founding partner of Brazilian investment group, DIS has accused Neymar and his family of being "traitors," while insisting the Brazil and Barcelona star can't be a role model to children for what he's done.
DIS owned a substantial stake in Neymar when the Brazil No. 10 was sold from Santos to Barcelona for upwards of €86 million in the summer of 2013, but were shorted in the deal because part of the fee was concealed by Barcelona, Santos and the company run by Neymar's parents.
The investment group filed a complaint afterward. And now, after losing a recent appeal, Neymar and those involved will stand trial on corruption charges related to the transfer.

Speaking for the first time publicly, an emotional Delcir Sonda slammed Neymar and his family for their "betrayal."
"He can't be an example to our children," Sonda said.
DIS received 40 percent of €17.1m when Neymar moved clubs, but believe they should have gotten 40 percent of the full amount of the deal.

"We trusted Neymar. We were brought in by his father and [his agent] Wagner Ribeiro in 2008 and we negotiated," he said. "We participated in the auction to buy this boy. Kia [Joorabchian] wanted to take him to Chelsea. But I invested in him, in his future, we bet on him before his professional debut.

"We invested R$5.5 million [€1.63m], we made friends with the family, we paid for trips to London for his dad and Jerusalem for the family. How can this kid say he doesn't know me? I was stabbed in the back."
"We trusted his word. I am a serious businessman, not a traitor. I only invested for the good of sport. Sincerely, to enter into a farce like this. ... We are serious and we invest in social, kids, the elderly. We started from the bottom and got here with a lot of sweat.

"He visited my family's home and I attended his, I was betrayed by Neymar, his dad and his mom. Neymar, his parents and Barcelona designed a scam. Fake contracts, secret lawyers. DIS was a victim of stellionate and private corruption, according to Spanish law.

"I want justice!"
Sonda said it was difficult to bring a lawsuit against Neymar, and that he still feels grief after making the decision.
"Corruption is spreading in Brazil, and in football also. I never thought we would have to open a criminal action against a boy that I think much of. I am very sad and annoyed," he said.
"I invested and believed in his family. We had barbecues, we had a suite at the Vila [Santos' stadium] just for them. I think I did everything I could for this boy. And now, from the bottom of my heart, I feel grief."

No 'Manna' Can Fall From Heaven With Buhari in Government

Adewale Giwa has, in this angry piece explained why it is a bitter truth that Nigerians can no longer wait for miracles to happen under this government.
President Muhammadu Buhari
It is fast approaching two years since President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in as President of Nigeria. Precisely, May 29, 2015 was the day Nigerians thought they had voted for a messiah to rescue them from the abject poverty they witnessed during the last administration of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. If Israelites had known they would be confronted with hunger, poverty, hardship and depression, they would not have followed Moses out of Egypt.
“If only we had died by the LORD's hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death,” the Israelites said to Moses and Aaron. The same scenario is currently playing itself out where things have gone from better to worse under President Buhari. Those who do not have the opportunity to express what they are passing through publicly are now resorting to committing suicide or attempting to commit suicide, which ever way.
That said, I overheard some 'cabals' whispering to Nigerians that President Buhari would be the one taking Nigerians to the promised land. If I may ask, which promised land are they talking about? Is it the one in the bible? An adage says, “A ki i fini joye awodi ko ma le gbadiye,” meaning, “One cannot be given the title ‘eagle’ and yet be incapable of snatching chickens.”

It is a bitter truth that Nigerians can no longer wait for miracles to happen under this government after having waited for nearly two years without any positive results. If Mr. President seems to be doubting my write up, I will advise him to quickly fly over to Lagos and take a walk just to test his popularity. A good leader has no need of being feared by the people, they say.
Recall that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidents made life inconvenient for Nigerians, but the scenario has grown worse with President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock. No wonder the political theorist Harold Laski said, “It is better a government does not exist than having a government under which people continue to wallow in abject poverty.”
At this juncture, if we do not say the truth as it is, the upcoming generation won't forgive us. President Buhari spends his two years playing the blame game, leaving governance behind and pretending to fight corruption. Nigerians voted for President Buhari with the hope of enjoying great leadership, but the reverse is now the case as things are not in any way getting better.
Considering the numerous challenges facing Nigeria, one ought to have thought that Mr. Buhari and his party would brainstorm to execute at least one project that would have a positive impact on the people. Political sycophants are now distracting people's attention from Buhari's failures by focusing on the 2019 presidential elections. I read recently that a governor in the South-East publicly said he would encourage Mr. Buhari to go for the second term. Of the presidents' 24 months in office, Buhari has spent over 8 months battling with his health and shuttling between Nigeria and the United Kingdom for medical treatment. Of course, my instinct tells me that even if they push President Buhari forward to go for the second term, the president might decide to nominate another person elsewhere.
Under this government, the nation's democracy has turned to autocracy. The legislative and executive arms of the government are flexing their muscles. Both are now toying with the lives of over 176 Million Nigerians who are struggling to put food on their tables instead of of focusing on governance.  By next year, the country will embark on campaigns for the 2019 general election, where the executive will neglect laudable projects it ought to have tackled in the past. This will be the time the sitting president will fool gullible Nigerians, giving the impression that if voted for the second term, he would be able to do better.
As the condition of the country continues to deteriorate, the majority of Nigerians are beginning to see that there is no clear difference between the APC and the PDP. PDP has now mixed with APC while APC also mixed with PDP, and they continue to play upon the intelligence of the people they govern. When should Nigerians expect good governance? Why has the government failed to stabilize electricity in Nigeria since 1960? Why is it that the past and present governments of Nigeria have found it difficult to protect the future of its citizens and why are the same people still ruling today in Nigeria? Buhari ruled the country under the military era between December 31, 1983 and 1985, and ended up presenting himself as a democratic politician who became the president of the country again. Is this all we have to offer? Do we not have conscientious leaders who care for the good of our nation? Are we cursed?
Let me quickly ask Mr. Buhari how far he has gone with the 40,000 MW electricity generation he promised during electioneering campaigns in 2015. The president should be reminded that Nigerians are still waiting for this to become a reality. How about making the naira equal to the dollar? On security challenges, while Buhari focuses on curbing the Boko Haram insurgency, Fulani herdsmen have taken over the country, terrorizing farming communities across the nation. Fulani herdsmen are now killing faster than members of Boko Haram, and nothing is being done to checkmate their activities.
President Buhari promised the creation of 1 million new jobs annually during 2015 election campaigns. While Nigerians wait for him to fulfill this promise, those who had jobs are being fired on a daily basis as some companies are laying off staff due to the harsh economy. Under this government, more than 40% of private companies in Nigeria have folded up as a result of the current recession that never existed during the last administration. Can we still expect "Manna" to fall from heaven with these failed promises?
Nigerian political leaders should remember one of the quotes of an American author and journalist, Anna Quindlen, who says, “Look back, to slavery, to suffrage, to integration and one thing is clear. Fashions in bigotry come and go. The right thing lasts.”

Shock as Ex-President is Sent to Prison for Corruption....See Details

A former president accused of corrupt practices has been thrown in jail sending shock waves across the country.
Park Geun-hye
Park Geun-hye, South Korea’s disgraced former President, was arrested and jailed Friday over high-profile corruption allegations that have already ended her tumultuous four-year rule and prompted an election to find a successor.
According to The Indian Express, a convoy of vehicles, including a black sedan carrying Park, entered a detention facility near Seoul before dawn after the Seoul Central District Court granted a prosecutors’ request to arrest her.
Many Park supporters waved national flags and shouted “president” as Park’s car entered the facility. An opponent held up a mock congratulatory ribbon with flowers that read “Park Geun-hye, congratulations for entering prison. Come out as a human being after 30 years.”
Prosecutors can detain her for up to 20 days before formally charging her. The Seoul court’s decision is yet another humiliating fall for Park, South Korea’s first female president who was elected in 2012 amid overwhelming support from conservatives, who recall her dictator father as a hero who lifted the country from poverty in the 1960-70s despite a record of severe human rights abuses.
Prosecutors accuse Park of colluding with a confidante to extort big businesses, take a bribe from one of the companies and commit other wrongdoing. The allegations led millions of South Koreans to protest in the streets every weekend for months before lawmakers impeached her in December and the Constitutional Court ruled in March to formally remove her from office.
It made Park the country’s first democratically elected leader to be forced from office since democracy came here in the late 1980s. South Korea will hold an election in May to choose Park’s successor. Opinion surveys say liberal opposition leader Moon Jae-in, who lost the 2012 election to Park, is the favorite.
Prosecutors can charge Park without arresting her. But they said they wanted to arrest her because the allegations against her are “grave” and because other suspects involved the scandal, including her confidante Choi Soon-sil and Samsung heir Lee Jae-yong, have already been arrested. The Seoul court said it decided to approve Park’s arrest because it believes key allegations against her were confirmed and there were worries that she may try to destroy evidence.

Park’s conservative party described her arrest as “pitiful,” while the liberal politician favored in polls to succeed her said the country took a step toward restoring “justice and common sense.”
The camp of Moon Jae-in, who lost the 2012 presidential race to Park, said in a statement that the nation should now “turn the page on painful history” and focus on creating a fair and clean country.
A day earlier, Park was questioned at a court hearing for nearly nine hours. As she left for the hearing, hundreds of her supporters, many of them elderly citizens, gathered at her private Seoul home. They wept, chanted slogans and tried to block Park’s car before being pushed back by police.
In the coming weeks, prosecutors are expected to formally charge Park with extortion, bribery and abuse of power. Her bribery conviction alone is punishable by the minimum 10 years in prison and the maximum life imprisonment in South Korea.
Prosecutors believe Park conspired with Choi and a top presidential adviser to bully 16 business groups, including Samsung, to donate 77.4 billion won ($69 million) for the launch of two nonprofits that Choi controlled. Company executives said they felt forced to donate in fear of retaliatory measures including state tax investigations.
Park and Choi are accused of separately receiving a bribe from Samsung and colluding with top officials to blacklist artists critical of Park’s policies to deny them state financial assistance programs, according to prosecutors. Park also is alleged to have passed on state secrets to Choi via a presidential aide.
Park and Choi deny most of the allegations. Park has said she only let Choi edit some of her presidential speeches and got her help on “public relations” issues. Choi made similar statements. The women, both in their 60s, have been friends for 40 years. Park once described Choi as someone who helped her when she had “difficulties,” an apparent reference to her parents’ assassinations in the 1970s.
Park’s father, Chung-hee, was gunned down by his own intelligence chief in 1979, five years after his wife was killed in an assassination attempt that targeted him. Park Geun-hye served as first lady after her mother’s death.
After her father’s killing, Park Geun-hye left the presidential Blue House and secluded herself from the public eye before she entered politics in the late 1990s — when public nostalgia for her father emerged after the country’s economy was hit hard by the Asian financial crisis. She had since become an icon of South Korean conservatives, earning the nickname “Queen of Elections” for her ability to led her conservative party to win tight elections.
Park now becomes South Korea’s third head of state to be jailed after leaving office.
Former presidents Chun Doo-hwan and Roh Tae-woo, both previously army generals, received a life sentence and a 17-year prison term, respectively, in 1996 on charges including treason and bribery. They were released in December 1997 on a special presidential amnesty.
Chun and Roh staged a 1979 coup that put Chun in power more than eight years after Park Chung-hee’s death. Roh was elected president in 1987 after Chun’s government caved to massive pro-democracy protests and accepted direct, free elections. In 2009, prosecutors questioned former liberal President Roh Moo-hyun over corruption allegations, but they later closed the investigation after Roh leaped to his death.

The House of Representatives has rescinded the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari to extend the tenure of a retired Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Jamila Shu’ara.
The house has directed that she should cease to be a civil servant with immediate effect.

The Head of Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Winifred Oyo-Ita was directed to carry out the order and ensure that all emoluments enjoyed till date by Shu’ara since February 2016 when she was formally disengaged were returned.
The directive was the outcome of a hearing on the issue between the Zakari Mohammed-led Committee on Basic Education and Services and the HoCS. Breakthrough Surgery: Plastic Surgeons Grow Man's Ear on His Arm and Transferred It to His Head (Photos)

A patient who suffered severe injuries on the right side of his face and lost his right ear in a traffic accident, has successfully undergone a transplant to relocate his ear.
An ear being grown on an arm by scientists in China
Plastic surgeons from a hospital in Xi’an, capital of northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, have successfully transplanted a regenerated ear from a patient’s arm to his head.
The patient, whose surname is Ji, suffered severe injuries on the right side of his face and lost his right ear in a traffic accident over a year ago.
As it was impossible to regenerate another ear over the scar, Guo Shuzhong, a leading plastic surgeon at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, decided to “plant” an ear on Ji’s forearm and then transplanted it to his head.
The plastic surgery was divided into three stages. During the first stage, a skin expander was set in Ji’s right forearm. In the second stage, doctors extracted cartilage from Ji’s rib and carved it to build the new ear. The cartilage was then planted under the expanded skin on the patient’s arm, allowing the new ear to grow.

Guo and his colleagues performed the third stage of the plastic surgery on Wednesday when they successfully transplanted the regenerated ear onto Ji’s head using microsurgical techniques. The operation lasted seven hours.
After the surgery, the newly transplanted ear appeared pink in the light of the operating room lamp. Guo and his colleagues heard the sound of blood flow using a Doppler blood vessel detector, indicating the surgery was successful.
Guo said the surgery was very difficult because they had to transplant the regenerated ear to an appropriate place on the head that could supply adequate blood flow to the ear to ensure normal functioning after surgery.

The patient is in stable condition. He will be discharged from the hospital in about two weeks when his new ear can work normally.
Guo and his colleagues also used 3D printing technology to make the regenerated ear look more realistic.
Guo and his team create regenerated ears for about 500 children each year.
In another scientific feat, a team of Chinese postgraduates have created an octopus-inspired soft robotic arm that can be used to heal injuries.
The students, from Beijing-based Beihang University, exhibited their prototype Thursday after developing it with a foreign firm.
Soft robots are constructed with materials like silicone, plastic, fabric, rubber or compliant mechanical parts like springs.
“The softness makes it possible for the robots to work more effectively and safely with humans and can be used for rehabilitation and recovery or in the service sector,” said Wang Tianmiao, a robotics engineer at the university.
The robotic soft arm is inspired by the tentacles of octopus, Wang said, “It can bend and swirl quickly, and the suction cups help it adhere tightly to objects of different shapes and sizes.”
In five to ten years, the robotic arm is expected to be used in minimal-invasive surgery and athletic rehabilitation, said Wen Li, associate professor in Beihang University and head of the team
